Facebook Marketplace Image Requirements Overview
Facebook allows up to 10 photos per listing. The first photo appears as the thumbnail in search results and the Marketplace feed. Multiple clear, well-lit photos increase buyer confidence and reduce the number of questions you receive.
Image Dimensions
**Recommended:** 1200px on the longest side for clear, detailed images.
**Aspect ratio:** No strict requirement, but square and 4:3 images display most consistently across the Facebook app and desktop.
**Best practice:** Shoot at the highest resolution your phone camera supports and let Facebook handle the resizing. Modern phones capture at 4000px+ which is more than sufficient.
File Format & Size
**Maximum file size:** 10MB per image.
**Maximum photos per listing:** 10 images.
**Recommended format:** JPEG for photographs (smaller files, faster upload). PNG only if you need specific quality preservation.
Content Rules
**Facebook prohibits:** - Stock photos or images copied from other listings - Text overlays with contact information, prices, or promotions - Offensive, misleading, or deceptive images - Screenshots of other listings or websites - Images that violate Facebook's Community Standards
**Important:** Facebook uses automated scanning and user reports to enforce these rules. Listings with policy-violating images can be removed, and repeated violations may restrict your selling privileges.
Tips for Better Facebook Marketplace Listings
**2. Natural light is best** — Take photos near a window or outdoors in indirect sunlight. Avoid flash which creates harsh shadows and washes out details.
**3. Show scale** — Hold the item, place it next to a common object, or include measurements in one photo.
**4. Photograph defects** — For used items, clearly show any scratches, stains, or wear. This builds trust and prevents disputes.
**5. Clean background** — A clean, uncluttered background helps the item stand out. White walls, clean floors, or a simple table work well.
**6. Take original photos** — Facebook can detect and flag stock photos. Always photograph the actual item you are selling.
**7. Use JPEG format** — Facebook Marketplace only accepts JPEG and PNG. If your photos are in WebP or another format, use our free Convert tool to switch to JPEG.
**8. Check compliance** — Use IsoPeel to verify your images meet Facebook Marketplace requirements before posting.
